Stephen George

Visionary

Stephen George is chief strategist and senior advisor to the CEO of the Ohio History Connection (OHC).  A resident of Columbus, he grew up in Mount Vernon where he developed a passion for history and historic buildings. From 1996 to 2004, Steve was executive director of the Ohio Bicentennial Commission and the author of its popular Ohio Bicentennial Barn Painting and Bell Casting projects among other successes. At OHC, he created the popular biennial Ohio Open Doors initiative. Steve has worked closely with several Ohio governors, and on behalf of Governor John Kasich he led a team spearheading the creation of the Holocaust Memorial at the Ohio State House. Steve envisioned Ohio Goes to the Movies and remains a creative force in its development. A lifetime learner, Steve audits classes at The Ohio State University.  He is married to Jeff Gatwood. The two are restoring a historic house in Mount Vernon.
