Ohio Goes to the Movies is a statewide film celebration highlighting Ohio’s impact on the film industry through movies connected to the state’s actors, directors, writers, locations, and stories.
The series runs from mid-February through October 2026, spanning roughly 250 days of programming across Ohio.
Events take place in all 88 Ohio counties at a wide range of venues, including theaters, museums, libraries, parks, and community spaces.
Each venue host chooses the film with an Ohio connection.
Admission to OGTTM screenings is free. However, some venues may charge a small processing fee depending on the online ticketing service they use.
Yes. While admission is free, many venues require advance tickets to reserve seating due to capacity limits.
The program includes a wide range of films, from Hollywood blockbusters to independent films and rare archival or specialty content, all tied to Ohio in some way.
Each film has a meaningful connection to Ohio, such as being filmed in the state, featuring Ohio talent, or telling a story rooted in Ohio.
Many events include added experiences such as themed activities, discussions, Q&A sessions, or community celebrations organized by local venues.
You can browse the official event calendar on the website to search by date or county and find screenings near your location.
The program is part of the state’s official celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, showcasing Ohio’s significant contributions to the history of film and entertainment.
Our calendar and catalog of films is available at OhioGoestotheMovies.org and on the home page you can sign up for our free monthly digital magazine that will be emailed each month.
Ohio Goes to the Movies is designed as a statewide celebration of films with Ohio connections, bringing communities together through free screenings and shared experiences. While the program highlights the power of storytelling and the impact of the film industry in Ohio, it is not set up to support the production or development of new films.
If you’re interested in making a movie, we encourage you to explore Ohio’s vibrant film community, including local film commissions, production resources, and creative networks that are built specifically to support filmmakers at every stage of the process.
Each participating venue chooses their own movie to show. You are welcome to reach out to venues to see if they would like to screen your film – remember all screenings are free and open to the public so you will not receive any money for showing your film.
All tickets are secured through the venues. You can find venues’ webpages linked on our calendar. If you do not see an event page on a venue’s website, please contact that venue directly for event details and ticket inquiries.
Absolutely! Please email ohiogoestothemovies@ohiohistory.org or bberry@ohiohistory.org if you are interested in hosting an event.
We are showing our last movie in October 2026. As part of the Ohio-250 program, this is a special event commission designed to celebrate the 250th birthday of America, and we will be discontinuing at the end of 2026. So, make sure you join in on the fun!
