June OGTTM Events Feature Unique Venues and Family Fun
COLUMBUS, Ohio (May 20, 2026) – Film lovers across the state are invited to celebrate Ohio’s rich cinematic legacy this June as Ohio Goes to the Movies (OGTTM), an America 250-Ohio Signature Event, presents a diverse lineup of 30 screenings in theaters, parks, libraries, drive-ins and one-of-a-kind community spaces.
“Our June schedule offers something for every audience — from family-friendly animation and cult classics to Ohio-connected films and nostalgic drive-in experiences,” said OGTTM Program Director Molly Kreuzman. “Ohio Goes to the Movies films are all free, and we have a full calendar running from now until October 2026.”
Movies and Family Fun Under the Stars
Nothing says summer like a movie under the stars. Ohio Goes to the Movies venues this month feature several traditional – and some unique – ways to enjoy the outdoors and some family fun.
Ohio boasts a rich drive-in community, with 38 screens and 23 operating theaters (third in the U.S., after New York and Pennsylvania). Several drive-ins will light up with OGTTM screenings this June to celebrate classic moviegoing traditions as well as Ohio’s longstanding love affair with drive-in theaters:
- “Men in Black” at Field of Dreams Drive-In (Liberty Center) on June 9 and Van-Del Drive-In Theatre (Middle Point) on June 10. The film stars Michael Chernus of Rocky River and features props designed by John Zabrucky of Warren.
- “A Christmas Story,” the holiday classic filmed in Cleveland, written by Jean Shepherd (Cincinnati and Toledo) and featuring music by Sammy Kaye of Lakewood, Rocky River and Ohio University), at Midway Twin Drive-In (Ravenna) on June 10, and Mayfield Road Drive-In Theatre (Chardon) on June 11.
- “Coco” at Fleo’s Flicks Drive-In Theater (Edgerton) on June 28. The animated Disney favorite, directed by Chagrin Falls native Lee Unkrich, won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song in 2018.
Other outdoor venues welcoming families for free screenings in June include:
- Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County in partnership with Wednesdays in Wintersville invites families to dress as your favorite superhero, bring a blanket and enjoy “Dog Man” near the dog park on June 3. The movie is adapted from the book by author Dav Pilkey (Cleveland).
- Geauga Park District’s Observatory Park (Montville Township) features a unique experience as a certified International Dark Sky Park. Bring the whole family, along with a blanket and picnic basket, on June 13 to enjoy “Finding Nemo,” another animated film directed by Lee Unkrich of Chagrin Falls with the screenplay co-written by Bob Peterson of Dover, Wooster and Ohio Northern University, starring Allison Janney of Dayton and Kenyon College, Vicki Lewis of Cincinnati and Bob Peterson.
- On June 12, Grove City Parks presents “The Princess and the Frog,” featuring Youngstown voice actor Jim Cumming, Cleveland’s Terrence Howard, and the animation genius of Disney Legend Mark Henn from Dayton. The film will also screen on June 16 at New Albany’s Charleen & Charles Hinson Amphitheater.
- The Dublin Summer Fun Series will host two outdoor screenings on June 27 at Riverside Crossing Park: “Inside Out 2,” animated by Kristina Kovacs from Cleveland and written by Meg LeFauve from Warren, and “Black Panther,” featuring Oscar-winning production design by Hannah Beachler of Cincinnati.
In addition to the animated films showing on outdoor screens, several others are featured this month. “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants,” showing June 13 at the Gloria Theatre in Urbana, features the voice of Urbana native Clancy Brown. On June 26, Chagrin Documentary Film Festival at Chagrin Falls Intermediate School Theater will show “Toy Story 2,” featuring the voice of actor Tom Hanks, who started his acting career in Cleveland, and highlighting the work of Chagrin Falls’ own Lee Unkrich, the film’s director and one of the leading creators in the animation world.
Ohio Connections on Screen
Several films in the lineup spotlight Ohio ties — whether through actors, filmmakers or subject matter— reinforcing the state’s influence across the film industry.
Notably, June screenings reflect connections to such talented Ohioans as George Clooney of Mason, starring in “The Ides of March” on June 3 at the Virginia Theater (North Baltimore); and Henry Mancini of Maple Heights, noted composer of the score for “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” screening on June 27 at Jackson City Library.
One of the month’s marquee events honors Juneteenth with a June 19 screening of “The Butler” at The Ohio Theatre (Columbus). The film is inspired by Columbus native Wil Haygood’s Washington Post article, and Haygood will be at the event to speak and celebrate his work!
